Animal Movement Increasing
After our recent rains, the wilderness has changed into a wonderful green area, with grasses and flowers growing in an array of colours, and animal movement increasing.
Some of the highlights of the walks for February have been two young male lions and the elusive brown hyena. There have also been some black rhino sightings and plenty of white rhino.
One of the most unique sightings we had of white rhinos has been two busy mating. This is truly a sighting to remember, because it is very seldom seen.

Other sightings include:
- Giraffe
- Wildebeest
- Zebra
- Interesting Insects
- Wide variety of birds including the rare plum coloured Starling.
While driving to the Apiesdorings to start our walk the one morning, we encountered a lioness on the road. Hoping to see her maybe a bit later on the walk, the alarm call of the impalas gave her presence away. As we scanned the area with the binoculars, we saw her walking in the distance and decided to get a better view of her. We crossed the riverine and there she was! Walking past us, in search of the rest of her pride, without her even noticing us. What an amazing sighting it is to witness these powerful animals on foot.
